This copy is SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Norman Spector on the front free endpaper. Condition is very nice. There are no bookplates or extraneous markings, aside from the inscription. The pages show no wear.
Norman Spector (1921-1986) was Professor and Chair of the Department of French and Italian at Northwestern University. During his career, he published numerous reviews, articles, and translations. At the time of his death, Spector's major bilingual verse edition of the complete fables of LaFontaine was nearly ready for publication by the Northwestern University Press.
Tristan and Isolt, also known as Tristan and Isolde and other names, is a medieval chivalric romance told in numerous variations since the 12th century. Based on a Celtic legend and possibly other sources, the tale is a tragedy about the illicit love between the Cornish knight Tristan and the Irish princess Isolt.
